“All we find are conditions” says an A4 sheet of paper on the wall of the office of “Bevk Perović Arhitekti”, or to be precise, in the office of the principals, architects Matija Bevk and Vasa J. Perović. It is not by accident that the printout of the façade grid of the Faculty of Mathematics is hanging next to this paper. For this recently constructed building came to life symptomatically, as a result of set conditions. The way Bevk Perović Arhitekti operate is completely opposite to the “tabula rasa” approach. Their work reflects the existing world, from economic and social conditions to the specifics of the location itself. However, good architecture is not just a reflex response to particular conditions, requirements and problems. Good architecture must contain elements never seen before, the elements of the unexpected, surprising, enigmatic.
